4Get ready for building and flying planes!
Paper plane exercise
• Teams of 6
• 3 sheets of A4 sized paper
• Each team needs to have at least 2 BUILDERS, and at least 2
PILOTS
➢ Builders are only allowed to build
➢ Pilots are only allowed to fly
Rules
Initial bid – Decide how many planes can your team build and fly
successfully in 2 minutes time
Success: Each plane that hits the wall successfully = $1 million
Cost 1: Each plane crashing before hitting the wall = $500,000
Cost 2: Each work in progress (unused paper, incomplete planes) = $500,000 for one full sheet of
paper
Total revenue = Success – Cost 1 – Cost 2
Time limits
• Planning: 3 minutes
➢ Decide on builder and pilot roles
➢ Decide on initial bid
• Building and flying planes: 2 minutes
• Don’t forget to count your hits and misses
• You cannot re-fly any planes
