The Light Rail Stabling and Maintenance Facility is a base station from which all operations of the light rail are managed, maintained and cleaned. The indicative layout of the stabling yard is important in the overall operations of the light rail system to cater for future demand. This part of the project deals with designing the light rail system and the broader transport system so that it appropriately integrates and improves customer journey.
Deliverable 6: Conceptual design of the light rail system
The design of the light rail system involves understanding the current operations, as well as requirements to serve future growth. Stage 1 is complete but Stage 2 is a work in progress and open to optimisation. As part of this process, it is important to understand current and future projected operations (i.e., frequency etc.), to determine the number of light rails needed that would not only affect the design of the stabling yard to store them as well as create appropriate network connectivity. This would involve a high-level design of the light rail system. A Risk Assessment should be undertaken from a project management perspective.
Include the following in your conceptual design:
(1) The mobility needs and gaps.
(2) Proposed interventions and levers to improve connectivity.
(3) The modelling framework for the transport systems.
Deliverable 7: Detailed design of the network and stabling yard modifications
The conceptual design then needs to be converted into detailed design of the transport system with any proposed changes/additions to the network, operations and the stabling yard. Considerations should be made about operational efficiency, safety and reliability.
Include the following in your detailed design:
(1) The current and future gaps
(2) Proposed designs.
(3) Cost-benefit analysis.
