Hello, dear friend, you can consult us at any time if you have any questions, add WeChat: THEend8_
The aim of this assignment is for you to demonstrate a good understanding and practical application of the user-centred
design methods covered in the module. In the portfolio, you should propose a concept for a novel app that can make the life
of a student easier. Please choose one of the following problems associated with a student’s life:
• Help students maintain healthy sleeping patterns,
• Study a module’s content more efficiently,
• Tackle mental health issues (e.g. lower presentation anxiety, reduce stresses associated with exams),
• Enhance the job-hunting process and prepare for the future career.
Please specify your idea clearly at the very beginning of your portfolio.
KEY PROJECT TASKS
• Choose a design idea and specify the main objectives (say what, how, and why you are going to do).
• Consider existing solutions (i.e. at least one existing app) that have a similar aim and conduct a preliminary
evaluation of these to point out how you advance previous design solutions (i.e. you need to come up with a new
and/or better solution).
• Conduct user research to find out what target users expect from a new solution. You should conduct at least one
interview with a potential target user.
• Establish a persona of your design idea.
• Present at least three specific requirements for your design solution.
• Design an early prototype (i.e. paper-based or low-fidelity digital prototype).
• Test your early prototype with at least one test user (this can be the same user who took part in your interview).
• Use the feedback received through the early prototype testing to produce a mid- or hi-fidelity prototype (with some
interactivity – you may want to use one of the prototyping tools, such as Proto.io, Figma, or Adobe XD)
• As you do research and development, compile the accompanying portfolio materials:
PORTFOLIO ELEMENTS
Your portfolio must include the following sections:
1. Introduction: describe the brief you chose and your proposed solution (at a high level).
2. Background research: analysis of existing solutions (i.e. apps currently available on the market that are similar to
your proposal). In a table, describe features, pros, and cons of at least one app that is relevant to your project.
3. An account of user research carried out before establishing requirements (i.e. summary of at least one interview
conducted with a potential user). Please, do not use online questionnaires (online questionnaires cannot
substitute a live interview)!
4. Description of a persona (at least one primary persona, per template used in the Week 4 seminar).
5. Scenario (at least one) and requirements (at least three) used in the design process (as per instructions provided
during the Week 5 seminar).
6. A description of the early (i.e. low fidelity) prototype you created (with annotated photos of the prototype and
captions describing each figure).
7. A summary of the user testing conducted to evaluate the low-fidelity prototype along with the relevant findings.
This must include the following items discussed in the HCI seminars:
• the completed “Usability Test Plan”,
• the introduction, task scenario, interview, and debriefing scripts,
• a table summarising the problems found during the paper prototype testing, the severity of the problem
(on 0-4 scale), and how the problem will be fixed in the mid-/high-fidelity prototype.
8. A description of the mid-/high-fidelity prototype you created (with annotated screenshots and captions). It should
be clear how these screens are interconnected.
