Assessment items and final grades will be reviewed through moderation processes (Learning, Teaching
and Assessment Procedure, 3.6). It is important to be aware that assessment results “must always
undergo final ratification for each study period. No single grade or mark represents a final result in a
subject” (Learning, Teaching and Assessment Procedure, 3.7.4.).
Final results for this subject will be graded as described in the Student Results Policy.
3.2 Feedback on student learning
You will be given feedback as appropriate for practicals and assignment results. You should also consider
that your weekly preparation and practice will provide a good guide to how well you are progressing with
the subject. You are welcome to ask teaching staff for further feedback as appropriate.

ASSESSMENT ITEM 1: DESCRIPTION
There are many ways to classify the different types of mobile applications on an app store. In particular,
two common types are known as “utility apps” and “educational games”.
Utility Apps provide rapid, “at-a-glance” information to the user. For example, a well-designed local
weather app might show the user the most important information about the local temperature and
weather forecast. Another example is a unit converter app that gives the user rapid access to different
units and an easy way to select values and produce immediate results.
Educational games are immersive and use the full screen. For example, there are apps designed for very
young children to help improve hand-eye coordination. There are apps that help kids explore various
levels of reading, writing, maths, and science. Recently, apps that introduce children to programming
have become popular.
This assessment task is split into two parts. Part 1 is worth 10% and focuses on the development of your
utility app. Part 2 is worth 20% and focuses on the development of your educational game.
