MARKER FEEDBACK ON ASSESSMENT 2
Overall:
The majority of students showed a solid grasp of utilising multiple leadership theories in their analysis. There was
a noticeable connection between theory examples and the demonstrated behaviours. Moreover, it was pleasing to
see that some students demonstrated an understanding of the link between motivation theory and leadership, with
a few even being able to identify specific leadership styles associated with different motivation theories. These
observations reflected your ability to critically analyse leadership theories and make meaningful connections to
real-world scenarios.
Individuals who did well
:
• Followed the requirements in the task guide (ie. chose a current leader who is well recognised) and met
all requirements of the marking rubric.
• Were able to provide a clear connection between theory examples and the demonstrated behaviours of
the leader discussed.
• Wrote clearly and logically, demonstrating critical thinking and application of learning.
• The best analysis of theories were the ones which defined what the theory was well, then gave good
examples that were summarised with good conclusions in a logical sequence.
Areas for improvement:
• Consider challenges and negative consequences: It is important to delve into the challenges and negative
consequences associated with the chosen leadership style. This will add depth and a well-rounded
perspective to your analysis.
• Enhance conclusions and transitions: Work on strengthening your conclusions by summarising key
findings and themes in each section. Additionally, pay attention to the transitions between sections to
ensure a smooth flow of ideas throughout your papers.
• Focus on specific leadership styles: In your introductions, focus on specific leadership styles and clearly
explain their relevance and importance in the context of your analysis.
• Refine analysis of theories: The section discussing theories would benefit from more comprehensive
analysis and the inclusion of real-life examples. This will help illustrate the practical application of the
theories and further support your arguments.
• Look for similarities and linkages between theories: In section two, examine the different theories and
leadership behaviours for similarities, linkages, and key insights. Finding patterns in the data provides a
deeper, more contextualised analysis.
• Ensure accurate citations and consistent referencing with APA 7th (or similar) style: Be mindful of minor
errors in your reference list and ensure accurate citations. Adherence to APA style guidelines is essential
for maintaining consistency and credibility in your academic work.
• Don't assume prior knowledge: It is important that you give a brief introduction of the individual and
explain what their organisation does before you discuss. Do not assume the reader knows the person or
the organisation.
Major issues:
• Some individuals wrote their case-study on someone who is not a 'widely recognised public figure who
currently occupies a high-profile leadership position' (e.g., Steve Jobs who passed away over 10 years
ago).
• Some individuals submitted ‘copied’ text that was not correctly cited or referenced [Plagiarism].
• Some individuals relied inappropriately on Generative AI to write their case study [Academic misconduct:
Failure to reference AI usage, and Student passing off the work of others as their own for academic
advantage].
• Some individuals submitted work with 'made up' references and source material. [Academic misconduct:
falsifying documents for academic advantage].
• In many groups, APA 7th (or similar) referencing format was not consistently applied throughout the
document.
Minor issues:
• Some individuals did not follow the file name requirements clearly articulated in the submission
instructions.
• Some individuals' work was not formatted consistently throughout the document.
• Grammatical and punctuation errors throughout many case-studies reduced readability and clarity.
• Use of non-academic language such as 'etc.'
