FINC5001 Foundations in Finance Major Assignment You currently work as a team at a major investment bank and have been tasked by the Investment Management Division (IMD) to analyse a stock that will be incorporated into a portfolio with other assets from the same market. You will need to prepare a recorded presentation to the leadership of Investment Management Division (IMD) that answers the questions proposed in this investment brief as well as a final recommendation. 1. Tasks Task 1 Overview and growth history Provide an overview of your chosen company. List the company’s key financial stats and a brief overview of its business segments and products/services. Describe the industry the company operates in and its position within the industry. Discuss relevant market trends and the competitive landscape. Review the revenue growth history of the company from 2014 to 2023. Highlight key milestones and factors that have contributed to its development. Has the revenue growth led to consistent dividend growth? Why or why not? Will the revenue growth be sustainable? Will the dividend growth be sustainable? Task 2 Risk Introduce the methodology that you’ve followed to measure the total risk and the systematic risk of the company. Compare the company's risk measures to the industry average/those of the key competitor. Discuss how the company's beta positions it relative to the industry/the key competitor, indicating whether it is more or less sensitive to market movements. FINC5001 Foundations in Finance Semester 1, 2024 2 Task 3 Valuation Assess the intrinsic value of the company using dividend growth model. Discuss the assumptions made and the sensitivity of the valuation to changes in key variables. Task 4 Catalysts/threats and Recommendations Highlight any upcoming events, strategic initiatives, or market trends that could serve as catalysts/threats for the company's future growth. Clearly state your recommendations for the audience. This could include a recommendation to buy, sell, or hold the company's stock. Provide a concise rationale for your recommendations, referencing key findings from the previous sections. Task 5 Limitations Critically assess and discuss the weaknesses and limitations inherent in your analysis. Identify potential challenges, assumptions, or uncertainties that may impact the accuracy and reliability of your valuation. Articulate any caveats you would incorporate into your recommendation based on the identified limitations. Highlight any internal and/or external factors that could influence the valuation outcomes and warrant a nuanced interpretation of the results. 2. Deliverable The main deliverable of this assignment is a pre-recorded video presentation in which all members of the group need to participate. The presentation should last between 8-12 minutes and each group member needs to present for at least 2 minutes. A maximum of 7 slides should be included among which: 1. A slide with the names and SIDs of the group members (ensure that the order of the names aligns with the order of the presentation). 2. A list of references/sources used in the presentation. 3. Submission The video presentation (including the slides) should be submitted by 11:59pm (Sydney time) on Sunday 12 May 2024 (Week 11). Submission links will be provided on Canvas for your video file and Powerpoint presentation slides (as a .pptx file). Only one member (the group leader) should submit the relevant files on behalf of the whole group. Consistent with Business School practice, a late submission penalty will be applied if your submission is not received by the announced due date/time.
