Laboratory Experiment 1
Composite beam test
Description
In this experiment, you will test the capacity of composite beams as shown in Table 1 and Figure
1. The beams have different shear connection types. The top part is made from concrete and the
bottom beams are bamboo.

Materials Properties
Concrete compressive strength = 25 MPa
Bamboo tensile strength = 120 MPa
Screw diameter = 4 mm
Screw Height = 40 mm
Screw tensile strength = 250 MPa
Bottom width of notches on the surface = 15 mm
Theory and Discussion
In the context of this experiment, you need to design the capacity of the beams and compare that
with the experiment results. All the designs should follow Eurocode 4 and other relevant
Eurocodes.

Composite column test
Description
You will test four column configurations as shown in Table 2 and Figure 2.

Steel reinforcement yield strength = 450 MPa
FRP strength = 1200 MPa (1 mm thick)
