Suggested format of a report writing
Title (not part of the recommended word limit):
Make sure the title is concise and reflects your topic and what you have found out
about your organization and specific SHRM function under study.
Table of content (not part of the recommended word limit):
Include the list of all sections, sub-headings, graphs and tables and their page
numbers.
Abstract/ Synopsis/Executive Summary (100 words)
In about 100 words, summarize what your report is about e.g. for a busy Executive.
Introduction (100 words)
Here, you need to include the following:
• Aim and rationale of your report.
• Place your report in context of organizational issues in SHRM and family
• Business.
• Quick information about your organization and its industry background.
• Brief description of the method you have used in collecting your
information.
• Quick comment on how you have organized your report.
Literature review (450-500 words)
You need a sizable section on literature review. Summarize your findings in literature
about the SHRM topic that you have chosen regarding your organization. You may
string together your literature review chronologically or organize it around the major
issues they have dealt with in the course. You also need to state how your literature
review is connected with the subject (i.e. the specific SHRM function) of your report.
Make sure all materials from other sources are clearly referenced.
Methodology (100 -150 words)
Here, you need to tell the story of how you collected your information from your
organizational leader. For example, you need to:
• Describe in details the methodology you have used in collecting your
information from the CEO, or HRM etc.
• Use past tense or passive voice in writing this section. E.g. “The CEO was
interviewed in a face-to face interview in two sessions over one week”.
Results (350-400 words)
Given the information derived from your interview with the CEO or the SHRM, tell
us what you have found in this section. You should discuss at least 3-5 of your major
results here.
The interpretation of what you have found will go to the next section under
discussion.
Discussion (450 – 500 words)
Here, discuss the significance of your findings and tell us how they fit into the
findings you reported in your literature review and introduction sections above. For
example, are your findings similar to those reported in your literature review?
Recommendations (150 words)
Based on your findings and what you have read in literature as well as experienced
in MGTS 7603, provide suggestions on what should be done to improve the
processes of the organization that you have just interviewed.
Conclusion (100 words)
As briefly as possible, summarize your most important findings here. No new
information should be included here. Also, include 2 -3 major lessons you have
learnt about SHRM by doing this assignment.
References (not part of the recommended word limit)
Provide all relevant references or bibliography using the APA style (See Assignment
Writing Guide on the course website if you are in doubt).
Appendices (not part of the recommended word limit)
All interview transcripts MUST be attached. Although use of tables, graphs are not
compulsory, but any relevant material attached as appendices must be labelled and
referred to in the body of the report.
