ASSIGNMENT 2 INDIVIDUAL PRESENTATION [10%]
3D WEBSITE PRE-PRODUCTION
Watch Lecture 9 for an explanation of this assignment brief.
Brief
Prepare and deliver a presentation showing pre-production for your 3D diorama scene
for the Assignment 2 Project. The presentation should include new design research
including discussion of new art direction decisions relating to 3D style and construction.
You will also show examples of conceptual development and planning, including
sketches and a mockup. You also need to create a technical prototype to demonstrate
that you have considered the assignment's technical requirements and limitations.
This is an individual assessment task. Your presentationwill demonstrate research
and pre-production for the Assignment 2 Project assessment.
New or evolving art direction for your project
Every project has creative and technical constraints that will affect the planning and art
direction for the project's visual design style.
Consider visual design research previously completed for Assignment 1 and discuss
how this style could be updated to work in a 3-dimensional context that fits within the
Assignment 2 Project's technical requirements. Show new research relating to visual
design and 3-dimensional construction that have influenced your 3D scene concept.
Conceptual Development
Create at least 2 draft sketches that show possible designs for your diorama. These
sketches will demonstrate exploration of potential design ideas for 3D scene layout.
Create a more digital mockup illustration that shows a more refined representation of
your ideal 3D scene and the design of scene elements. This mockup should show the
intended visual design style of your scene.
Clearly label possible animations and interactions within this mockup illustration.
Preliminary Prototyping
Consider how the technical requirements of the project will affect your design concept.
● Can your design be efficiently implemented using 30-60 3D faces?

● What are the appropriate dimensions of the scene and its elements?
● Which elements require animations, interactions or specific types of media.
Test your scene layout idea by creating a technical prototype. Prototyping can be done
using precise 2D drawings of orthographic views, rough blocking done using 3D
modelling software or basic constructions using HTML/CSS code.
Refer to the Assignment 2 Project Brief for thewebsite specifications.
Deliverables
This assessment requires an in-class presentation for authentication. An exported PDF
of your slide deck must be uploaded to Moodle on the day of the presentation.
● In-class presentation
○ 5-minute presentation of research, conceptual development and prototyping.
● Presentation slide deck
○ Approximately 10-15 presentation slides in PDF format.
○ Include references at the end of your slide deck.
If you are unable to attend class for reasons beyond your control youmust submit an
application for special consideration. The Chief Examiner will determinewhether the
presentation can be rescheduled or submitted as a video recording.
Assessment Criteria
This assessment is primarily assessed during class. Your tutor will review your
submitted slide deck to finalise marking your mark for this task.
● Visual design research and art direction
○ Demonstrate relevant 3D design research and discuss your new art direction.
● Conceptual development
○ Show draft sketches of potential diorama designs and justify your ideas.
● Mockup illustration
○ Show and explain an illustrated mockup of your ideal scene design.
● Preliminary technical prototyping
○ Create a prototype that considers technical requirements of the project.
● Presentation delivery
○ Evidence of preparation, clarity of delivery and use of visual aids.
