Assignment #4: Term Paper
Due: Thursday, March 23 (9am) Assignments submitted after 9am will be considered late (please
review the course late policy for penalties).
Method of submission: Online via Ouriginal and Quercus.
Assignment Size: 2500-3000 words (which is approx. 10 pages double spaced)
General Notes: This individual assignment is worth 25% of your final mark and the third of three
connected assignments (see Essay Feedback Reflection and Term Paper Outline, Bibliography, and
Introduction) For this assignment, you will submit a ten-page research based essay that answers
your research question with a strong thesis.
Assignment Description: Considering the feedback you received on Assignment #1 and #2, write a
10-page research-based essay that answers your research question using a strong thesis (in other
words, a research essay that makes an argument.) The essay must use a minimum of eight (8)
peer-reviewed, scholarly sources and contain an effective thesis statement. The essay will be
graded based on its merits (research, writing, structure) and on how effectively you used the
feedback provided on the two earlier assignments.
You must submit two items:
1. A term paper (as outlined in the assignment description and details)
2. An earlier draft version of the paper
Assignment Details:
Term Paper
• All work is your own. Remember to cite every idea, quotation, reference, or paraphrase
from your research material. Failure to cite can result in a plagiarism inquiry (please consult
the syllabus for information on the university’s penalties for plagiarism, which can include a
suspension).
• 2500-3000 words (or approx. 10 pages double-spaced)
• Minimum eight peer-reviewed, scholarly sources (more sources are fine and you can
include non-scholarly sources in addition to this minimum)
• Times New Roman, 12-point font, 1" margins
Note: You MUST submit both items. Failure to submit both items will result in a grade of 0 for this assignment.
CCT110: Rhetoric and Media. Winter 2023. Assignment #4
• No title page necessary. Put your full name and student number on the top of your
assignment, and number your pages
• Spell-checked and proofread, free from typos
• All research used cited in APA style (including in-text citations, any mentions of scholars’
research, and your bibliography). Note that the bibliography is not included in the page
count for this assignment.
Draft version of paper
• Academic papers require multiple drafts. You MUST submit an earlier draft of the final
paper.
• 1800-3500 words (word count is not that important for this version)
• Proper citation is not required (although your draft should include a draft bibliography)
• Unlike the final term paper, the draft does not need to be spell-checked or proofread. It
may contain typos and rough notes, incomplete sentences, etc.
• There must be clear evidence of progress between the draft and final paper (ie. the draft
should not be identical to the final paper, or include only a few differences)
Course late policy (from CCT110 course syllabus)
You are expected to complete assignments on time. There will be a penalty for lateness of 10%
deducted per day for this assignment. Work that is not handed in one week after the due date will
not be accepted.
