3. This is an Online Open-Book Exam, your responses must be your original
work. You must attempt this Final Exam by yourself without any help from
others. Thus, you have NOT worked, collaborated or colluded with any other
persons in formulating your responses. The work that you are submitting for
your Final Exam is your OWN work.

6. Failure to upload the exam by the submission time will result in a penalty of
15% of the available marks per hour of lateness.

10. Total marks available: 100 marks. This examination is worth 50% of the total
marks for the course.
11. Questions are not of equal value. Marks available for question sub-parts are

limits must be adhered to. Text in excess of the specified word limit(s) may not
be considered in the marking process.

• You are permitted to refer to your course notes, any materials provided by
the course convenor or lecturer, books, journal articles, or tutorial

QUESTION 1 65 MARKS
Super Hair and Beauty (SHB) Salon is an established small business that provides hair
and nail services. It has recently expanded its services to also provide a variety of
lessons aimed at new hairdressers and nail technicians. These will be run by SHB’s
most senior staff as well as new instructors that will be hired specifically to conduct
these lessons. Sally, the owner of SHB Salon recognises that her system that handles
customer bookings will not be able to adequately handle this new expanded service
and is contemplating whether she should introduce a new workgroup system for
managing her clients’ bookings and instructors. The concern is that there would be an
overlap of features between the new and existing systems as well as require her senior
staff to learn to use another system. Therefore, she is looking at introducing an
enterprise resource planning (ERP) system that has been widely adopted within the
beauty industry that can facilitate all her salon’s operations.
Required:
With reference to the above case, please answer all of the following questions:
a) Sally is looking to get some advice on whether an enterprise resource planning
system would be preferred over a specific workgroup system. Define the different
scopes between the systems and evaluate the suitability of the enterprises
resource system by giving TWO (2) advantages from the customer's perspective
and TWO (2) advantages from the business’s perspective. [max 350 words]

b) Introducing this new system will involve incorporating some new procedures,
such as onboarding and training a variety of staff as well as modifying existing
processes, such as booking appointments and capturing customer or client
details. Discuss the THREE (3) main steps involved in an ERP implementation
where new process structures and resources are introduced. Discuss THREE (3)
potential challenges to a successful implementation and how she can mitigate
them. [max 600 words] (20 marks)
c) Her staff have brought up during consultation that they would really like to
consider allowing the system to be enhanced for mobile use. Explain how the
FIVE (5) IS components of an enterprise resource system will need to be
optimised for the elements of a mobile system. [max 350 words] (15 marks)
d) Moving to a new system will always carry some risks. Evaluate the FOUR (4)
system conversion approaches and recommend the most suitable for SHB Salon
to adopt. [max 400 words] (15 marks)

TalkAussies is a newly established telecommunication company that provides phone
and internet services. They aim their services at youths who are active on social media
and gaming platforms. Utilising AI to analyse their customer’s usage, the system can
automatically prompt users on a weekly basis to adjust their call and data plans.
Making changes is easy through their web portal and takes effect immediately. This
has proved to be a success with over 5 million customers in just two years. This rapid
growth has meant that TalkAussies has had to reconsider how they operate to mature
its data policies and security practices to allow it to remain competitive in the long term.
Required:
With reference to the above case, please answer all of the following questions:
a) Identify and discuss TWO (2) potential ethical issues that might result from the use
of this AI-supported analytics and promotion system. Recommend a policy that
details acceptable use and behaviours to address each ethical issue. [max 250
words] (10 marks)
b) Discuss, using examples, TWO (2) potential security vulnerabilities that can impact
TalkAussies’s business operations. Be clear about what the form of loss may be for
the organisation as well as the source of these threats. [max 300 words] (10
marks)
c) In the case of any incidents affecting the TalkAussies web portal, system
procedures will need to be defined. Describe, using examples, the system
procedures you recommend TalkAussies to have in place for the backup and
recovery of this system. For each procedure, discuss the role of IT operations
personnel and customer service staff utilising the web portal to manage their
customers’ queries. Explain why preparing these procedures is crucial for handling
a potential security incident. [max 350 words] (15 marks)
