2. 1 double sided A4 sheet of notes - physical only.
3. Up to 5 blank pages for use as working sheets.
Notation: Please use the following system of notation when answering the exam questions:
1. Use lower case letters to denote OLS estimators of regression coefficients. For example, use b1
to denote the OLS estimator of B1.
2. Use Bj to denote the regression coefficient B j. For example, use B1 to denote the regression
coefficient B1.
3. Use R2 to denote R2.
4. Use Rbar2 to denote adjusted R2 R2.
5. Use H0 and H1 to denote the null and alternative hypotheses respectively for a hypothesis test.
6. Let TS denote a generic test statistic. Use TScalc and TScrit to denote the sample and critical
values respectively of the test statistic TS. For example, use Fcalc and Fcrit to denote the sample
and critical values respectively of an F statistic.
7. Use u(t-j) to denote utj. For example, use u(t-1) to denote ut1.
8. Use X2(k) to denote a chi-square variable with k degrees of freedom. For example, use X2(2) to
denote a chi-square variable with 2 degrees of freedom.
9. Use (AB)/(CD) to denote the ratio AB
CD
.
10. Use the symbol ~as short hand for the phrase "is distributed as" . For example, use
b1/se(b1)~t(n-k-1) to denote
b1
seb1
tnk1.
Hypothesis Tests
Unless otherwise instructed, all hypothesis tests should be conducted at the 5% significance level.
