• The written report is worth 45% of the total course mark.

The task
Develop a proposal for a (hypothetical) new government program to address a social/economic issue. The
proposal must include the elements listed in the table below.
You may pick any country, any level of government, and any topic area of interest to you (e.g. health,
education, transport, crime prevention, environment etc).

Report structure and word limit
• You need to ensure all essential elements are covered. There are otherwise no specific
requirements for the structure of the report.
• You are allowed to use bullet points where appropriate, e.g. to capture a list of related items or to
describe a sequence of steps.
• When referring to the work of others, you need to provide appropriate referencing (the ‘Harvard
System’ is preferred). Failure to do so will incur a penalty of up to 4 marks.
• The word limit is strictly 1,000 with no buffer.
• The word count includes tables and diagrams, but excludes the reference list.
Due date
• The written report is due at 11:59pm on Saturday 6 August 2022.
• The penalty for late submission is 2 marks per day (i.e. 2 marks will be deducted if it is submitted on
7 August, 4 marks if it is submitted on 8 August, and so on). Written reports submitted on or after
12 August will not be marked.
• If you experience difficulties uploading the written report near the due date, a copy of the written
report should be emailed to the lecturers as proof of completion before the due date. Penalties will otherwise apply
to late submissions on Turnitin.
• The submission link will remain open beyond the due date. However, if you update your written
report after the due date, the latest version will be marked and late penalties will apply.
