ELECTRONICS 2 ELE2018
ASSESSED COURSEWORK
This coursework will contribute a maximum of 5 marks to the module results.
Your work should be uploaded to CANVAS before 10 pm on Monday 22 November.
You may upload a scanned or photographic image of your work, which must be clearly
readable.
Late submissions will incur a penalty – see University regulations.
2 of 3 ELE2018
Please refer to your operational Amplifiers, Active filter, lecture series when
completing this assignment
1. Design a first order active low-pass filter with a voltage gain at low frequencies
equal to (the last digit in your student number +12) and a cut-off frequency in Hz
equal to your student number with the first two digits omitted. [2 marks]
2. Design a first order active high-pass filter with a voltage gain at high frequencies
equal to (the last digit in your student number +2) and a cut-off frequency in Hz equal
to: Cut off Frequency (Hz) = (the value of your student number with the first two
digits omitted)/100 [2 marks]
3. Cascade the two filters from above:
(a) Show clearly the completed cascaded circuit diagram with all component values
and the values of cut off frequencies (Hz) [2 marks]
(b) Calculate the voltage gain in dB at the filter passband [1 mark]
(c) Draw a bode plot of the cascaded filter (Frequency (Hz) on the x axis, voltage gain
(dB) on the y axes) [3 marks]
Logarithmic graph paper is provided for the bode plot.
Assumptions:
Referring to the active filter lecture notes you can assume a value of
R1 to be 1 k for the low pass filter and R4 = R = 10 k for the high pass filter.
